International Day for Biological Diversity 2026 at Shree Shakti School of Innovation, Ambaji: Acting Locally for Global Impact

On 22 May 2026, the world observes International Day for Biological Diversity with the powerful theme "Acting locally for global impact." At Shree Shakti School of Innovation, Ambaji, this day holds special meaning because our campus itself sits in the lap of the Aravalli Hills, one of India’s oldest mountain ranges and a living classroom of biodiversity.

WHAT We Celebrate

At SSI, we do not just observe this day, we live it. Our children regularly step out of classrooms to explore the natural world. From identifying local plants and birds to understanding how every small creature plays a role in the ecosystem, our experiential learning approach turns the Aravalli landscape into a teacher.

This year, we are encouraging every student and family to take one meaningful local action — planting native species, reducing plastic use, creating a small kitchen garden, or simply observing and documenting the birds and insects around their home.

WHY This Matters Deeply for Our Children

Biodiversity is not just about saving forests. It is about our own survival and well-being. When children understand the delicate balance of nature, they develop across all five koshas:

  • Annamaya Kosha: Connection with pure air, water, soil and natural food
  • Pranamaya Kosha: Respect for the life force present in every living being
  • Manomaya Kosha: Emotional bonding with nature that brings inner calm
  • Vijnanmaya Kosha: Scientific curiosity and systems thinking
  • Anandamaya Kosha: Deep joy and sense of belonging with the natural world

In today’s rapidly changing climate, children who grow up with this connection become not just successful individuals but conscious custodians of the planet.

HOW Parents and Children Can Act Locally

For Children:

  • Observe and note down 5 new plants, birds or insects around your home
  • Start a small balcony or kitchen garden with native plants
  • Reduce single-use plastic for one full week

For Parents:

  • Take children for a short nature walk in the Aravalli area
  • Share stories of how previous generations lived more harmoniously with nature
  • Involve children in choosing seasonal and local vegetables

When parents and children take small actions together, the impact multiplies at home, in the community, and eventually for the planet.

Our Collective Responsibility

At Shree Shakti School of Innovation, we believe true education must prepare children to live responsibly with nature, not just succeed in examinations. The theme “Acting locally for global impact” reflects our philosophy perfectly.

Let this International Day for Biological Diversity remind us that every child who learns to care for a tree, a bird, or a drop of water is taking a step towards a more sustainable future.

Let us act locally. Let us make an impact globally.
